Sunset over a calm lake with a wooden pier extending into the water, surrounded by trees and reflections of the sky in the water in Pawleys Island South Carolina

This stretch of coastline has given us so much, quiet mornings on the sand, sunsets over the marsh, a community that feels like family, and we believe that kind of blessing comes with responsibility. Giving back through hands-on conservation isn't an obligation for us, it's simply part of how we live here. As a Keep America affiliate and an official Conservation Assistant for the South Carolina Aquarium, Jolene leads regular beach sweeps up and down the South Strand, rallying neighbors and friends to clear trash and debris before it ever reaches the water. It's simple work, buckets, gloves, a few hours on the sand, but the impact adds up fast, and there's something grounding about spending a morning taking care of the place that takes care of you.

That same commitment carries into the classroom too. Every May, for National Turtle Month, KSSB partners with Seaside Elementary on a sea turtle coloring contest, giving local kids an early connection to the coastline and the creatures that call it home. It's become something more than an art project. Several of those families ended up joining their very first beach sweep afterward, turning a classroom activity into a real, hands-on morning together on the sand.
